Result: The $575,000 penalty was reduced to $192 (the price of one Microsoft product which
was not in compliance).
Situation: Facing over $575,000 license issue with Microsoft, Client A did not have spare change
in that amount to address the issue. There was no process in place to determine their actual exposure,
so there was no way to accurately account for actual license purchases.
Solution: In less than 60 days, Lucet provided them a solution that inventoried the office environment,
reported on software usage, and consolidated software purchases over a five-year period.
Net Cost: 80 hours of consulting time and $192 for the single non-compliant product.
Magic number 30:
30 days ahead of schedule, 30% under budget
Result: Lucet completed the project 30 days ahead of schedule and more than 30% under budget.
Situation: Lucet was the third consultant Client B hired to engineer their 25,000 seat SMS & ZenWorks consolidation and upgrade. The project had a $2 million budget. Project was stalled with half the budget gone, Lucet was the third consultant on the job.
Solutions: After investigating and analyzing, we realized a signifi cantly large cost savings would be achieved if older, but in-warranty, hardware was repurposed to serve as “helper servers” instead of purchasing 120+ new servers.
Lucet found the source of resistance to the project internally. It was due to unknowledgeable staff who were anxious about their roles in the new Microsoft centric environment. We worked with them to directly address any perceived talent gaps and negotiated a comprehensive training contract to train all infrastructure staff on SMS to achieve an easy adaptation to their new responsibilities. This resolved the interdisciplinary conflicts thus allowing all project teams to work harmoniously.
Lucet developed a standardized software packing and distribution process that was modeled on the ITIL management principles, and a reporting infrastructure to allow management to track progress of product rollouts and software initiatives.
Lucet assisted the VP of Infrastructure in recruiting permanent staff to handle the new environment after Lucet was off the project full-time.
